Child Admission Policy

All swimming pools are not designed or operated the same way. Here at Highbullen Hotel, Golf & Country Club we regularly review our Health and Safety policy, Normal Operating Procedure’s and Emergency Action Plan, in line with current regulations and best practice.

Our child Admission Policy has been written with the following two factors as our main directive, [1] there are no lifeguards for our pools – pool depth less than 1.5 metres and/or surface water area less than 160m2 – cctv surveillance covering the entire pool hall is in constant operation. [2] Due to the design of our pool, there is no designated safe area – segregated section of a pool specifically for non-swimmers.

The following adult to children ratio and level of supervision applies at all times during public swim sessions, [1] One adult aged 16 and over is responsible for a maximum of two children under 16 years. [2] Children under 8 years and non-swimmers aged over 8 years must be accompanied in the pool by a competent swimmer aged over 16 years and over, children aged 8-15 years can be supervised from the poolside by a competent swimmer aged 16 years and over. [3] All children under 8 years are allowed in the same changing room as the adult they are with.

Adults have a specific responsibility for the safety of the children that they bring with them to a swimming pool. Pool operators are responsible for ensuring that the admission policy adopted for their facility is communicated to current and potential users effectively.
