Walking at Highbullen

Walk over rolling hills, along meandering rivers or through magical woods. Chittlehamholt is a great place to stay and explore the area by foot. There is a range of walks available around the hotel and estate, including a short half hour stroll around the village, or a lengthy trek across Exmoor taking in England’s highest cliffs, breath-taking views and wonderful wildlife. A series of maps for local walks can be found in the Highbullen Hotel.

For dog owners and walkers there are six walks available direct from the hotel. The shortest route takes around half an hour and takes in the village and estate grounds, for more experienced walkers there is a long walk over Exmoor climbing to the top of England’s highest cliffs and hopefully seeing some of the local wildlife.

Walks available include the following:

  • Walk 1 - A leisurely half hour stroll around the village of Chittlehamholt.
  • Walk 2 - A 60 to 90 minute demanding circular walk from the hotel around the local countryside and wood.
  • Walk 3 - A 90 plus minute woodland walk beginning at the hotel taking in the local flora and fauna. This can be extended to take in parts of The River Mole.
  • Walk 4 - A circular two to three hour trek from the hotel, which has some wonderful views.
  • Walk 5 - A three to four hour circular walk taking in woodland, streams, open farmland and Devon villages.
  • Walk 6 - A three plus hour circular walk, which features England’s highest cliffs, the North Devon coastline and Exmoor.

For more information on all the local walks please ask at the hotel reception where a folder with routes can be found to help you prepare with advise on length of the walk and appropriate footwear.
